Mother Teresa.

Mother Teresa.

By : Faye Ordonez

Aim : To understand the life and achievements of Mother Teresa.

Kia Ora! In today’s post I will be talking about Mother Teresa, a woman who created change for a better world and did many great deeds.

Mother Tereasa’s original name is Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu. You might be asking why she’s called “Mother Teresa '' when her name is completely different from that. Well to answer your question, When she had joined the Sisters of Loreto order, she was given the name “Sister Teresa” after the name of Saint Thérèse de Lisieux. She became Mother Teresa after she said her final vows.

Mother Teresa is a nun. A common definition of a nun is that most nuns live together and devote their entire lives to serving god. This means that they don’t have the things we usually take for granted. Nuns give up all their possessions and can never get married because they must be focused on serving God and their communities. At the age of 18 Agnes (Mother Teresa) travelled to Ireland to become a nun and join the Sisters Loreto Order.

A convent in Ireland commissioned Sister Teresa to India to work as a missionary. She had wanted to become a teacher so she decided to begin working at St. Mary’s High School for girls.

During her time there she learned Bangali and Hindi to be able to teach/work at that school.

As a teacher, she had hoped to help educate girls so that they wouldn’t have to live in poverty and possibly eliminate poverty one day.

In my opinion education can help people get rid of poverty because if they can earn more knowledge they can get a lot of different better paying jobs.

On 26th September 1946, Mother Teresa was riding a train. This is when she got the “Call from God”. During the train ride she said that god told her to leave the school and work with the poor, this is what she had said she did. Mother Teresa needed permission to be able to leave the convent and the school because of the vows she had made in the past. So she had to spend 1 year and half more until she finally got permission to leave so that she could fulfil her calling in 1948. She decided to change her clothes to blue and white, which is what she's famously known for.

Later in her life she received a lot of awards and prizes for her amazing achievements and even won the Nobel peace prize. Although she decided to decline the banquet. Why, you ask? This is because she said that she preferred it to be given to the people who need it more. This tells a lot about her as a person, she has shown that she really did care and that she doesn't need to get paid for her deeds she is just happy to help the people.

From these past statements I can tell that Mother Teresa was a very lovely and caring person.

Another thing that Mother Teresa was a part of was the Missionaries of Charity. When they first started this organisation it only had 12 members but nowadays it reaches over 4,500 members. This organisation runs AIDS nursing homes, and cares for refugees, the blind, disabled, aged, alcoholics, the poor and homeless victims of floods, epidemics and famine.

Unfortunately, Mother Teresa passed away at the age of 87 on the 5th of September, 1997. Many people around the world were devastated because of this news.

Mother Teresa will be remembered as an amazing person who changed the world in may different aspects, she will be remembered as a hero to many. I believe that her purpose in life was to help all the other people that need help and aren’t getting enough attention from the government. Thank you for reading this research of mine, I hope you learned new things about Mother Teresa that you may not have known about!

Is your name important part of who you are?

Topic : Your name is an important part of who you are.

I agree with the statement given above.

My reasons for agreeing are, names are important because it can differentiate you from other people and you've had it since birth! It helps others know you to are. Names are important because it was a name give to you by your parents or perhaps it was a name given to you by yourself? Some names are really rare and can make you unique! Its an easy way for people to remember who you are!

For example if you didn't have a name it could be really hard because people might just call you "Hey you" "Hello random person". If no one had a name it would be really hard to differentiate people from others, you'd have to describe them. Which can be hard because a lot of people has the same features as another person. Perhaps if a friend forgot who you are, maybe your name could ring a bell to them!

Therefore I agree that your name is a VERY important part of who you are as a person.

Sir Edmund Hillary Research/Essay

Sir Edmund Hillary Research

By : Faye Ordonez

Starting our paragraph off I will be talking about his life before fame. Edmund Hillary was Born in Auckland, New Zealand on July 20, 1919. Unfortunately he died on 2008, 11th of January at the age of 88 years old. June Hillary and Rex Hillary were Edmund Hillary's two siblings. Percival Augustus Hillary (Dad) and Gertrude Hillary (Mum) were his parents. Percival Augustus Hillary’s occupation was beekeeping, Gertrude Hillary's occupation was teaching kids (She was a teacher). With his brother Rex, Edmund pursued beekeeping like his dad but soon went to work as an air force navigator during world war II, but soon became interested in mountaineering (Which led him to becoming the first person to fully climb Mt. Everest). He chose to climb Mt. Everest because it is his passion and he loved to explore places, he also liked to have a little bit of a challenge every now and then. Unfortunately a few years after climbing Mt. Everest, Edmund and his wife had three beautiful children but both the wife and daughter of Edmund Hillary passed away due to a light aircraft crash accident.

As we already know Sir Edmund Hillary was known for his incredible achievement which was climbing Mt. Everest, in this paragraph we will be learning about how he succeeded in his goal and journey of becoming a world famous person! Sir Edmund Hillary's passion was Mountaineering, he even climbed many more Mountains considered to be tall! As people should already know, Edmund Hillary was with Nepalese Sherpa Tenzing and were the first people to climb Mt. Everest. In fact Mt. Everest is 29,035ft, it is unimaginable that someone from a small country managed to climb everest! Most mountaineers take about 2 months to climb Everest, so it’s a pretty long journey and a hard one considering the conditions up there. Research shows that it took Edmund Hillary 5 months to finish his expedition on climbing the mountain, although it did take him awhile but he still managed to complete his goal! He faced many challenges along the way to get to the top including the 40 foot rock wall that is now called the ‘Hillary's Step’. Because the air was too thin, they had to go back and tell others about their amazing achievement. In Fact Hillary wrote books about his many accomplishments/journeys traveling and exploring the world.

Moving on, we will be talking about what he did after his adventure/expedition to get to the top of Everest. After he climbed Mt. Everest, he continued his passion of climbing many more tall and challenging mountains ( Which probably wasn’t as challenging as Mt. Everest ). As we know Sir Edmund Hillary has become very famous, in fact so famous that even the Queen noticed him! Soon after his achievement the Queen decided to knight him, This gave him the title of ‘Sir’. This is why most people write Sir Edmund Hillary rather than Edmund Hillary. It is clear to tell that New Zealand really appreciated what Sir Edmund Hillary did because they even put him on the 5$ note! He also got a Padma Vibhushan medal, Hubbard medal and Patron’s Gold medal. As you can tell from my research, he got a lot of attention/rewards for climbing this Mountain. In my opinion it was definitely worth it, he not only got recognition/rewards he got respect from New Zealanders and many more people around the world that support him! Although he died his legendary expedition will continue to live on.

I hope you learned a lot of interesting facts from my research, who do you think is the most inspirational New Zealander?

The Principle is the most important person in the school?

Kia Ora! In today's lesson we were given a topic to write about, Here is our topic :
The Principal is the most important person in the school?

I disagree with this statement.

In my opinion the Principal isn't necessarily the most important person because I think everyone in the school has equal roles and is as important as the school principal. Although, yes school principal's are important because they make a lot of decisions that make the school better for us students but... If students didn't attend school, the school would be useless and it would be nothing. If there weren't any teachers no one would learn anything! If it weren't for the cooks we wouldn't have free food. This is why I think everyone in the school has their own special role.

If someone were to tell you that another person was more important then you, what would you think about it? I'm sure you'd think about many reasons on why you think your as important as them or even better! An example is that, a company wouldn't be anything without their costumers and employees.

Therefore, I disagree with the statement due to the reasoning's above this text.

Shark infested Custard.

Kia Ora! Today in health we played a game called Shark Infested Custard! It was really fun playing it with my classmates!

The IP skill I picked was active listening and communication! Some warm fuzzies I used were "you can do it!" "Nice!".

Using the IP skills I chose today helped because we all listened to each other and communicated so that we knew what to do, although we didn't finish in first place the IP skills still helped us finish in 2nth place! We all told our opinions and told each other what to do so that we could succeed.

The people I worked with were Kristille, Leo, Sereybuth, Travis, Hamid and Chelsea. I enjoyed working in this team because all of us were kind and encouraging to one another and no one got mad even though we lost!

If I were to do it again I would change the way we played, as an example I would put the hoops a bit more farther so that we could go faster and possibly win!

Again I think I work on Hellisons level 3 because I think that I worked well with my team and didn't get stressed even if we lost! We learned some new skills by communicating and listening to each other.

Concentration & Dilution

Kia Ora! in today's lesson in BIO we will be learning about concentration & dilution. Concentrations means, measure of how much solute has been dissolved in the solvent. Dilution means Making something less concentrated (weaker), there will be less particles in the liquid. We will be able to measure it in two ways,  How dilute something is (how weak it is), how concentrated something is (how stronger it is).

Today's experiment will be about Serial Dilution. (Serial Dilution - Diluting something multiple times.) We will be doing this experiment five times.

Aim : Cary out a Serial Dilution with Potassium Permanganate.

Hypothesis : I think that all the waters inside the tube will turn into different colours because of the dilution?

Method :

Observation :

As expected all of the colours turned into a different colour which was different shades of purple, as we dropped more to the other test tubes it got lighter and lighter and more dilute. Test tube 1 was a lot more concentrated because it had more particles and text tube 5 was the most dilute because it had less particles.
