ESOL/Reading a novel.

Kia Ora! Today we will be talking about today's ESOL lesson and what occurred during the first half of our time.

During the first few minutes of entering ESOL, our teacher started to read a novel without warning us. At first I didn’t notice her reading because of all the ruckus going on as all of us tried to get into our seats, but I soon heard her when all of us settled down. 

Our teacher didn’t tell us the name of the novel but started to read the pages anyway, I think she did this to keep the story hidden so that there would be no spoilers when we watch the movie or read the book during ESOL time.

As she started to read the story word to word it seemed that a boy named Noah (Possible protagonists/Storyteller) was talking about the past, future and present tense of his family's story. 

The novel started off by telling us about how his dad first met and fell in love with Noah’s current mother. Noah talked about how his father met his mother at a bakery store and immediately fell in love with her the moment he first laid eyes on her, his dad knew what he wanted when he saw her. The dad wasn’t all that focused/interested in studying; he was rather focused on the girl he had met that day. Though the dad was head over heels in love with the mum, the dad tried to convince/make her fall in love with him, and that’s when it started. The mum soon asked the dad out (Which of course he said yes to). 

A few years went by and they got married, they later went to Kenya for their honeymoon. Noah’s parents liked to travel a lot around the world, but they soon settled down to have 3 kids of their own in Sydney Australia. They were a joyful and happy family during this time, even though the mom and dad have kids now it didn’t stop them from travelling. They continued their journey with 3 kids beside them this time!

My prediction is that some sort of tragedy will happen to them, The reasoning behind this thought is that Noah said and I quote “I guess we all kinda knew that our life was perfect and that we wouldn’t change a thing. 

But sometimes you don’t get that choice, do you? Sometimes stuff happens that you would do anything to try to avoid. But you can’t. And that’s what happened to us.”. This made me think of perhaps the “Sometimes stuff happens that you would do anything to try to avoid. But you can’t. And that’s what happened to us.” might be hinting to a family tragedy/accident that they couldn’t avoid? During the story the word “Magpie…” was mentioned, If you didn’t know already this is a type of word. I think that perhaps this magpie is a pet, or perhaps some sort of helping animal?

ESOL - Story

Today in ESOL we were doing a story with these words - Contemplate, Courageous and cornucopia. One of the difficult things about writing this was I didn’t know what cornucopia was. Another thing that was hard was writing words that would fit in and sound nice, But I managed to do it I believe. Though it was a bit hard it was really fun writing this story, And you might notice it’s sort of based on a game I’ve recently been playing! Anyway here is my story. I hope you like it. Maybe there’s something I could’ve improved? 

Letter to the outside world.

I woke up to a loud thumping sound coming from the front of my boat , I had thought that I hit a big rock causing my boat to stop in the middle of nowhere. I wiped the sleepiness off my eyes and sat up and looked behind me… And there it was a place yet to be discovered and filled with wonders “I’ve reached land!” I said to myself in awe. I'm a very courageous person if I do say so myself, So I stepped out of the boat without worry. The sand felt like clouds forming the shape of my feet as I walked through. “I should probably contemplate around the place first” I thought to myself, As I was looking around I picked up a scent coming from a few miles away. I followed the scent suspiciously since I had thought there was no one on this island, The scent smelt like different sorts of fruits gathered in one place and I smelt a little bit of pie? I finally reached my destination and peeked around the bushes for safety, it was like heaven! There was a pile of food gathered up in one place, and a humongous cornucopia right in the middle of everything else. I myself am a very big fan of fruit and veggies, I had thought of being a vegan one day… Without worry I rushed over to the food without thinking about the consequences. Suddenly I heard rustling around the bushes, before I knew it I got knocked out and woke up in a wooden cage. This is where I'm writing this now. I’ve tried for days to escape but they’d always catch me, though they are very interesting people. This possum that comes here everyday to get food has been keeping me company. They’d given me supplies to build a leaf bed in my cage so I'm pretty comfortable, Plus they give me a generous amount of food everyday. I never understand them because they spoke in a language I never heard before. For anyone who finds this they have a mask on their faces and have fur all around their body, Some tribal markings and they always carry a bat or a shield with them. Their pretty lazy creatures, Might I mention there’s this big fella with them I had found out it was their leader because they always follow what he/she said. I forgot to mention that I have a sister, Her name is Lumine. I had lost her a couple of months back, I miss her a lot.

Athletics Day

Yesterday at Thursday was my first time going to athletics day, I usually skip this day because all we o is sports and i'm not a fan of sports that much. Before school we got to dress up and wear mufti in our house colours and My house was Tieke so I dressed in red! Most of my friends picked social including me. At around 10 AM we started doing the events, The first event I did was high jump, at first I was really scared to jump  because I was afraid I would fail but I ended up making it! After that we did a couple more events but just short ones.We accidentally missed an event once because the teachers didn't inform us that the time changed, But then again we were happy we missed it because we didn't really like doing sports. Around the end of the day the finale event of the day started, The different Houses versed each other in a race. Sadly blue won but it's okay because we can try again next year.

ESOL - What I do on the Weekends!

 What I do on the Weekends!

This week in ESOL class we will be talking about what we like to do in our spare time during the weekends! Personally for me, weekends are relaxing days, I just tend to do nothing and just chill all day. Right now me and my friends have been playing this game called “Genshin Impact” . We usually play this game constantly during the weekends day and night! I love playing this game with my friends because it brings us together and it does involve a lot of teamwork to defeat certain bosses ! We are usually on calls for hours on end until it’s finally time for bed, although it can get a bit crazy during the calls it’s still very fun and gives us a lot of laughs! Whenever I don’t really feel like playing this game I usually draw a lot, Though my drawings aren’t really the best… I still enjoy drawing! I love to draw anime characters from shows, Usually from the shows I watch but some, just at random. During these times, sometimes I have to take care of my sister’s dog that I pet sit whenever they’re gone, I love taking care of him! Sometimes there’s nothing to do at home really… So I'm bored a lot! To solve this, I usually pop the TV on and watch some Netflix for a little bit. I don’t usually come to the mall with my parents since I tend to be busy playing my game but, Whenever I do decide to hop off and go to the malls, It’s quite fun! If I do have homework, I just do it during the weekends since there are too many things to do during the school days and it does cure my boredom. And if again, I don’t feel like doing anything I just go on call with friends and talk about stuff going on in school and just lay in bed while we talk. These are mostly the things I do during the weekends, I don’t really do much, Honestly I just do things at random or whenever I feel like it. On Fridays when the weekends start I usually relax/Sleep all day because of all the exhaustion from school work! These are usually all the things I do during the weekends! Hope you liked it! ESOL - 12 February 2021

321 RIQ -

Today in ESOL class we learned something called 321 RIQ, This strategy is used to reflect on your blog post and help you write it. We are going to be writing about 3 R which means recalling/remembering what we've learned/did in the subject. The second thing is 2 I which means something new you learned during that subject and that you may have not known about before. the third thing is 1 Q Which means asking something about that subject like when and how, For example " When are we going to play more games? ". 

3 Recalls - I remember learning about the meaning of blogging, this particular topic helped me encourage myself to write more blog posts. I haven't really been the type to like writing blog posts but that topic helped me encourage myself to. I also remember when we learned about the advantages of being able to show your work to the teacher. On the first day of ESOL I wasn't here so I don't really remember much but a couple of my friends told me that they learned about each other while playing a game calle the "Name Game" 

2 Insights - 321 RIQ was one of the new things I learned during this ESOL class, Im happy that I was able to understand/Learn about this because it will help me in my future blog posts. Another thing I learned about in ESOL was about my teachers and my classmates, it was interesting to hear what they liked to do. It was nice to learn something new about my teacher as well!

1 Questions - Something ive been wondering about is that when will we be able to play more games? And what type of work we will be doing in the future.
