Ballons

Aim: To see which chemical
mix creates the most gas.

Hypothesis: I think it will grow big

Materials:
  1.  2 balloons
  2.   2 water bottles
  3. baking soda
  4.  soda
  5.  lemonade
  6.  plain salt
  7. plastic spoon
  8. vinegar
Steps:
  1.  lemonade, soda, baking sodasoda, lemonadeget your balloon, plain salt, plastic spoon, vinegar
  2.  Get a water bottle
  3.  Put the vinegar into the water bottle
  4.  Put some vinegar inside the balloon
  5.  Put the blowing part of the balloon on the tip of the water bottle
  6.

Findings:

Balloon 1
( 3 tsp baking soda, ½ cup vinegar)
Balloon 2
( 3 tsp salt, ½ cup soda)

Balloon Size (cm)
24 cm3cm
Bubbles
(small, medium, large)
mediumsmall

Conclusion:
The balloon grew 24 cm big,I really liked seeing the balloon grow and deflate.
We also learnt that you can make carbon dioxide while doing this experiment.
Once It was all deflated it turned from 24 cm big to 3cm small.

You will need to do the following:

  1. Title: NZ Natives
  2. Examples:

  •  Miro
  •  Rimu
  •  Kauri
  •  Totara

Mars

Aim: To learn about Mars exploration.

1. Rover facts
2. Design, Draw and Make a Rover
3. Mars facts

1. Rover facts:

What are the 5 parts for?
Link: Rovers 5 parts
Fill in the table below.

Name:
Purpose:

Wheels
So it can move around.
Solar Panel
They were made to maximise the solar cells th at take the collects the energy of the sun.
Laser
It is used to destroy meteorites.
Camera
It is used to record things
Shovel, rock pick,drill
Mars has a lot of iron oxide in its planet, A drilled sample of it will help scientist

2. In groups of 3 you will Design, Draw and Make a Mars Rover out of Lego Technics.

Materials:

  1. Lego Technics
  2. A4 paper
  3. Pencil
  4. Ruler
  5. Eraser
The drawing and model must have:
  • 6 wheels

  • 1 camera
  • 1 tool at the front than includes a shovel, pick and drill.
  • 1 solar panel
  • 1 laser that points at the ground

( Take a photo and upload  your mars rover onto your blog.

3. Mars Facts

Conclusion:I learnt about different types of moons, about our atmosphere ,the temperature, rainfall, surface ,colour, gravity, distance and length of dyad year.It was really cool to know that in mars years it can take almost 2 years in mars to go to another year. And also there is 37 more minutes for the day in mars! It was really cool learning all these new facts about mars.ds@hornby.school.nzSciene blog

CIP Meal challenge

CIP Meal challenge

On Wednesday Me, Qyn,Kristille, lyan, Jolly Rose and Alliah cooked some food.
We made some spaghetti in the kitchen at the teachers lounge, Mr Mitchell let us work in the teachers lounge because there was no more space in the classroom. We made some spaghetti by getting all the ingredients like pasta, sauce, onions , cheese and hotdogs we only got to buy a few ingredients because our budget was only 12$ so 2$ for each person. We did this because we were trying to learn how to spend money wisely. The First thing we did was we chopped up everything that we needed to chop, After that we cooked the hotdog with the onion. Once it was cooked we carefully put the sauce in with the hotdog and onion. When all the ingredients we’re ready we put the sauce on top of the spaghetti and sprinkled some cheese on top. Once all the meals were prepared it was ready to dig in! I think Our spaghetti tasted really good but it kinda tasted a bit sour, but other then that I think it tasted really nice!
